Trausti has spent the last few decades leading naturalist tours in his native country, Iceland. A vivid childhood memory is a surprise meeting with a white Gyr Falcon plucking a Rock Ptarmigan in the rugged lava field where he grew up. With a lifelong interest in birds, his knowledge also extends to the flora, mammals, geology, and the cultural history of the island.
He is active in conservation, serving as the vice-chair of BirdLife Iceland (Fuglavernd).
Trausti thoroughly enjoys meeting new people and introducing them to Icelandic nature, people, and culture.
