Simone is an academic, polar guide, and sound artist from the Netherlands. She is currently undertaking a PhD at the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge (UK). Her research focuses on polar acoustic ecologies and soundscape conservation. Her research involves lots of travel to remote regions in the Arctic and Antarctica with a suitcase full of microphones, to make field recordings of the sounds of ice, wildlife, and the underwater world.
When Simone is not at work in the polar regions, or writing papers from her office in Cambridge, she loves to spend time on her creative interests. She is part of a band and loves to perform, dance, and produce new music. She is also an avid reader and writer and is always happy to chat about her work and anything polar-related.
