Nicole is a professional photographer and cinematographer, focused on expedition filmmaking, underwater animal behaviour, and conservation visual storytelling. With a passion for scientific and underwater stories, she creates captivating sequences using fieldwork, data analysis, videography, and photography for impactful outreach and education.
Originally from Oakville, Ontario, she now lives on Vancouver Island in Tofino, British Columbia. Nicole holds an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Western Ontario. After university, she spent four years working for and managing environmental organizations on the West Coast, creating upstream solutions for plastic pollution and promoting wild salmon conservation before pursuing storytelling full-time.
As a conservation photographer and filmmaker, Nicole films for various clients, including the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, for deep-sea and oceanographic research expeditions in the Pacific Ocean. Following an expedition in 2023, she even got to name a new species for science.
Her stories have been featured in national and international magazines and news outlets, including Oceanographic Magazine, CBC, Greenpeace, David Suzuki Foundation, and UK House and Garden Magazine. She is a member of the Canadian Conservation Photographers Collective, the Wildlife Camerawomen Community, Women in Ocean Science, and the Vital Impacts Community.
She is an advanced freediver and DiveMaster and also serves as an expedition leader, running sailing and diving trips in French Polynesia and the Bahamas. In her spare time, you can find her underwater, surfing, or sailing with friends!
