Michelle Davies

Archaeologist

Michelle is an archaeologist and PhD candidate focused on family archaeology in Hebron, Nunatsiavut.

Michelle lived in Nain, Nunatsiavut for six years with the Nunatsiavut Government's Archaeology/Heritage Department. Though a visitor to the region, she developed strong community ties along the coast and sought to deepen her relationships through the Hebron Family Archaeology Project, initiated in 2016.

The project aims to provide opportunities for Hebronimiut to return to their homeland, and to share their stories and memories before they are lost. After four successful years of research in Hebron, the project is now fully funded by the Nunatsiavut Government as a core heritage program. It continues with Lena Onalik, a descendant of Hebron.

Michelle currently works as an archaeologist for the government of Ontario and maintains her connections to the region through her ongoing research. She previously travelled with Adventure Canada in 2014 and is excited for the opportunity to return to this beautiful land with her family on board.
