Greg Stroud - Naturalist

Greg Stroud

Naturalist

Greg is a lifelong naturalist specializing in botany and birding who is passionate about sharing his love of nature with others.

Greg was born and raised on the island of Newfoundland which he will always call home. He has worked as a naturalist with Parks Canada for over thirty-five years all over the country. He completed his biology degree in botany at Memorial University of Newfoundland specializing in boreal and Arctic alpine plants.

He has been very fortunate in his career to have led hundreds of natural and cultural tours for various groups over the years including Smithsonian, Audubon, Natural Habit, and Wildland Tours. To Greg, there is no better feeling than sharing his passion for the natural and cultural world with enthusiastic people who are keen to learn.

His love of botany is only surpassed by his passion (rather, obsession) for birds. Birding has taken Greg all over the world from Australia, Africa, the tropics, and the Arctic. Living on islands most of his life, including five years on the fabled Sable Island, he has a deep interest in island life and the unique cultures that have evolved there.

When not chasing birds or botanizing, Greg enjoys mountain biking and white-water kayaking. Both activities are challenging and push his body and mind to the limit. To Greg, life is just one big adventure, and his philosophy is that if you are not living on the edge then you are taking up too much space. Greg is very excited to be a part of the Adventure Canada team and to get an opportunity to share his enthusiasm and passion for everything outdoors.
