Emma Sutherland - Marinen Biologist

Emma Sutherland

Marinen Biologist

Emma is a graduate student focused on beluga behaviour and movement, who loves to chat and learn about Arctic marine ecosystems and their many fascinating inhabitants.

Born and raised in the decidedly landlocked farmlands of southwest Quebec, Emma developed an appreciation for the natural world and fell in love with the North while participating in field programs for her undergraduate degree.

Over the years, she has worked in Panama, on the Bay of Fundy, and in the central and western Arctic studying monkeys, shorebirds, phytoplankton, and belugas. She is fascinated by the impressive long-distance movements and complex social lives of cetaceans and is always excited to learn more about these amazing creatures from the coastal Arctic communities that share their waters.
