Food First NL works collaboratively across all parts of the food system. Their programs and partnerships span production, distribution, access, consumption, and disposal of food. They aim to help build a province where people have both economic access to food and a thriving local food system to participate in.
To do this, Food First NL works at every level. At the grassroots, they provide support and resources for community food initiatives. Provincially, they convene partners, advocate for systemic and policy change, and build awareness of the province’s food security situation, challenges, and opportunities. Nationally and internationally, Food First NL connects the province to the broader food movement.
All these conversations make Food First NL keenly aware of the gaps in Newfoundland and Labrador’s food systems, and they are in the process of building out social enterprise solutions to close some of them.
Newfoundland and Labrador’s foodways are deep and rich. Food First NL is working to keep them that way and to ensure that everyone in the province can share in that richness.
