Gwen Freeze

Assistant Program Director

Gwen is a passionate microbiology student and outdoor adventurer. She loves hiking, climbing, and exploring the mountains.

Gwen was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, where she grew up with her mom, dad, and two older brothers. Since her childhood, she was raised adventuring in the outdoors, spending her summers at the family’s lakeside cabin, and hiking, running, and camping in the cooler seasons. Gwen’s first trip with Adventure Canada was in 2015 when she was just sixteen on the Heart of the Arctic expedition, which completely hooked her for working on board with Adventure Canada.

Gwen graduated with her bachelor of science in Biology from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops in 2022. From there, she moved to Guelph, Ontario to complete her Master of Science, studying the gut microbiome and its relation to colorectal cancer, which she will be graduating from this fall. She is very passionate about all aspects of biology and has loved working in the research fields of microbial ecology and human biology. When she’s not in the lab, you can find her running the trails, road biking, rock climbing, and practicing her embroidery!
