Jackie is passionate about generating and sharing discoveries and knowledge about the Arctic environment

As an expert in climate change and the Arctic, Jackie Dawson is passionate about generating and sharing discoveries and knowledge about the Arctic environment.

Jackie is a full-time professor and Canada Research Chair at the University of Ottawa and has led national and international science initiatives across the global Arctic for the past two decades. She is an award-winning scientist having been granted the Governor General’s Innovation award, Social Sciences Impact Award, and University of Ottawa Research of the year awards. She has represented Canada’s science community at the highest international levels, including with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, World Meteorological Organization, International Maritime Organization, and Arctic Council, and recently traveled with the Governor General of Canada on her State visit to Finland.

For the past five years, Jackie has also acted as the Scientific Director of the Network Centres of Excellence, ArcticNet, which is an internationally renowned science institute, leading major scientific discoveries in ocean, terrestrial, and climate science. Under her leadership, ArcticNet has pushed the boundaries on how effective science is done in Canada by developing the North-by-North program, Canada’s first Inuit-led and Inuit-governed science program.

Jackie has worked on and off with Adventure Canada since 2005 and last traveled onboard the Ocean Endeavour as a scientist in 2018.
