David Sturge
Naturalist, Cultural Educator
David is a wildlife conservation photographer and storyteller with a deep connection to the landscapes, wildlife, and waters, of Newfoundland and Labrador.
David is a wildlife conservation photographer, park ranger, and marine wildlife guide whose life is deeply rooted in Newfoundland and Labrador. Through photography and storytelling, he captures and documents the province’s wild beauty while inspiring others to connect with, understand, and protect the natural world.
In 2026, David was named Canadian Geographic Photographer of the Year and selected as a Canadian Geographic Emerging Photographer-in-Residence as well as travel ambassador through its adventure program. His work supports organizations including the Nature Conservancy of Canada, where he serves as a property steward, the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society–NL, and Nature NL.
A storyteller shaped by Labrador’s vast wilderness and generations of fishermen, David shares an intimate connection with the land and sea. Whether photographing wildlife, guiding on the coast, or navigating Newfoundland's waters, his purpose remains constant: to celebrate wild places, foster connection, and inspire their protection for generations to come.
