Your journey begins in Ushuaia, where the Andes meet the sea at the southern tip of South America. Surrounded by the forests and mountains of Tierra del Fuego, this lively port has long welcomed explorers, scientists, and travellers setting out for the Southern Ocean.

After arriving at Ushuaia Airport, you'll be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Take time to relax after your travels or explore the city's waterfront, museums, cafés, and shops at your own pace.

Later in the day, meet your expedition team and fellow travellers for a welcome gathering. Over regional cuisine and introductions, you'll begin discovering the places, wildlife, and stories that will shape the journey ahead. 

Enjoy a relaxed morning exploring Ushuaia before transferring to the pier, where the Ocean Albatros awaits. Settle into your cabin, meet the captain, expedition team, and crew, and attend important briefings before your voyage begins.

As the ship enters the Beagle Channel, the mountains of Tierra del Fuego gradually slip astern. Black-browed albatrosses, petrels, cormorants, sea lions, and perhaps Magellanic penguins accompany our departure as we turn toward the open waters of the Southern Ocean. 

Expedition travel begins long before the first landing.

As the Ocean Albatros sails south, your expedition team introduces the remarkable environments we'll soon explore. Presentations examine the wildlife, geology, history, and ecology of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and Antarctica, while mandatory briefings prepare everyone for safe and environmentally responsible exploration.

Between presentations, spend time on deck watching seabirds ride the Southern Ocean winds or simply settle into the rhythm of life at sea.

The Falkland Islands offer an unforgettable introduction to the Southern Ocean. Here, open grasslands, rugged coastlines, and windswept shores support extraordinary concentrations of seabirds and marine life, while generations of islanders have built communities shaped by the surrounding sea.

Weather permitting, we'll explore locations such as Saunders Island and The Neck, where black-browed albatrosses nest alongside colonies of gentoo, king, Magellanic, and rockhopper penguins. Kelp geese, steamer ducks, peregrine falcons, and many other bird species thrive across these islands, whose varied landscapes reveal the close relationship between climate, ocean, and life.

Every landing offers a different perspective on an archipelago where nature and human history have evolved together. 

As we continue south, the ocean itself begins to change. Crossing the Antarctic Convergence—a natural boundary where colder southern waters meet those from farther north—marks our entry into one of Earth's richest marine ecosystems.

The days are filled with opportunities to watch wandering albatrosses, giant petrels, and storm-petrels accompany the ship, while whale blows and the season's first icebergs hint at what lies ahead.

Presentations, wildlife watching, and conversations with the expedition team deepen your understanding of the Southern Ocean—the living system that connects every destination on this voyage. 

South Georgia is one of the great wildlife destinations on Earth—not simply because of the numbers of animals that gather here, but because the island tells an extraordinary story of ecological recovery.

Once profoundly altered by sealing, whaling, and introduced species, South Georgia has become one of the world's most celebrated conservation successes. Native wildlife is flourishing once again across an island where glaciers descend from rugged mountains to meet the sea.

Over five days, we'll explore through a series of landings and Zodiac cruises, each shaped by weather, sea conditions, and wildlife activity. King penguins gather in astonishing colonies alongside gentoo and macaroni penguins, while elephant seals and Antarctic fur seals crowd the beaches. Wandering albatrosses soar overhead, returning each year to breed on these remote shores.

South Georgia also preserves one of Antarctica's defining human stories. At Grytviken, abandoned whaling buildings invite reflection on a complex past, while nearby lies the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton, whose leadership during the Endurance expedition continues to inspire generations of explorers.

Every landing reveals another chapter on an island where history, conservation, and wildlife come together in remarkable ways. 

Leaving South Georgia astern, we continue across the Scotia Sea toward Antarctica. The ocean grows colder, icebergs become more frequent, and anticipation builds with every nautical mile.

Join the expedition team for presentations exploring Antarctic science, wildlife, history, and international cooperation, or spend time on deck watching for whales, seabirds, and the increasingly dramatic ice that signals our approach to the White Continent.

These days remind us that the Southern Ocean is more than a route between destinations. It is the living system that connects them all. 

Antarctica rewards curiosity and patience. Here, weather, sea ice, and wildlife determine where we go and what we experience, making flexibility an essential part of true expedition travel.

Over the coming days, we'll explore the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, adapting each day's plans to the conditions before us. Towering glaciers, sculpted icebergs, snow-covered mountains, and sheltered bays create an ever-changing landscape unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Penguin colonies bustle with activity while seals rest along the shoreline or on drifting ice. Whales may surface offshore, sustained by the rich marine ecosystem that makes these waters among the most productive on the planet.

Whether stepping ashore, cruising among icebergs by Zodiac, or quietly watching the landscape unfold from the deck, every encounter offers a new perspective. Along the way, your expedition team helps reveal the geology, ecology, history, and scientific significance of this remarkable continent.

Depending on conditions, we may visit places such as Brown Bluff, Neko Harbour, Paradise Bay, or Deception Island. Active research stations and historic sites further reveal Antarctica as a place dedicated to discovery, international cooperation, and peaceful scientific research. 

For many travellers, crossing the Antarctic Circle is one of the defining moments of the voyage. Few expeditions venture this far south, where nearly continuous summer daylight and the growing influence of sea ice create an even deeper sense of Antarctica's scale.

Our route may take us through the Lemaire Channel, where mountains, glaciers, and towering icebergs frame one of the great passages of the Antarctic Peninsula. Should conditions allow us to continue beyond latitude 66°33′, we'll celebrate together—recognizing that, as throughout this expedition, nature has the final say. 

Our final day on the White Continent offers one last opportunity to embrace the rhythm of expedition travel.

Whether exploring ashore or cruising among icebergs by Zodiac, we'll continue seeking meaningful encounters with Antarctica's wildlife and landscapes. Perhaps you'll linger beside a busy penguin colony, watch seals resting on floating ice, or witness whales feeding offshore.

However the day unfolds, it provides a fitting conclusion to our time in one of the most remarkable places on Earth. 

As we recross the legendary Drake Passage, Antarctica gradually slips beyond the horizon, but its influence remains.

Spend time on deck watching albatrosses, whales, and seabirds accompany the ship northward, or join the expedition team for concluding presentations reflecting on Antarctica's wildlife, science, and the Antarctic Treaty System, which has protected this remarkable continent for more than half a century.

Overnight, we return to the sheltered waters of the Beagle Channel and arrive once more in Ushuaia.
