Katherine Díaz Hernández

Naturalist, Conservation Biologist, Environmental Educator

Katherine is a biologist with a passion for nature conservancy

Katherine was born in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, surrounded by coffee fields. Playing and running on those fields, she fell in love with the mysteries of nature. This interest led her to achieve a bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Costa Rica.

During her years studying Biology, Katherine worked as curator’s assistant at the Department of Mammalogy of the Zoology Museum. It is in this place where she found a lifelong passion for mammals, especially bats. She has more than ten years working in nature conservancy as an environmental educator and interpreter. She has participated in international congresses on mammals, bats, and conservation in México, El Salvador, Belize, and Czech Republic.

In 2010, Katherine was awarded a scholarship to study Bioacoustics of Bats at the Ecology Institute at Ulm University. While living in Germany, she took the opportunity to indulge in her love of travel by backpacking throughout Europe. Her adventurous spirit has led her to travel as a backpacker not only in Europe, but also throughout Central America and within Costa Rica. Katherine is not just passionate for nature but for arts and culture. Currently, she is a certified guide by the Costa Rican Tourism Board and the National Association of Interpretation. Katherine is excited to share her passion for nature and its conservation.
