Jerry Kobalenko

Historian

Jerry enjoys boots on the ground, Arctic travel, history, and natural history.

Both a photographer and a writer, Jerry's work appears around the world in publications such as National Geographic and Outside. His book, The Horizontal Everest "is refreshingly free of the hubris that marks much adventure writing," writes The New York Times Book Review. They add, "The reader never feels assaulted by Kobalenko's daring, only inspired by it."

He has just finished his next book, a literary travel work on Labrador.

In 2018, the Canadian Government awarded Jerry the Polar Medal in recognition of his love, passion, and knowledge of Canada's north, which he shares through his many writings and talks.

In 2022, he was awarded the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal.

When he is not on an extreme journey, Jerry lives in Canmore, Alberta with his wife Alexandra, with whom he shares many adventures.
