Adventure Canada is proud to be one of the polar travel providers of The Explorers Club, and delighted to welcome notable explorers aboard each of our expeditions, including the young people from our joint Young Explorer program. We are pleased to have many members of The Explorers Club among our expedition team.
In 1904, The Explorers Club was founded as an international, multidisciplinary, professional organization dedicated to the advancement of field research, scientific exploration, and to the ideal that preservation of the exploratory spirit is vital. In the century since, The Explorer’s Club has played a significant role as the premier meeting place for explorers and scientists worldwide who have pushed the limits of discovery and human endurance. The Club Headquarters resides at the landmark Lowell Thomas Building in Manhattan.

Modern explorers are now studying in detail what the pioneers revealed in outline. Robert Peary, the Club’s third President, and Matthew Henson “discovered” the North Pole in 1909. The discovery of the South Pole by Member Roald Amundsen followed soon after in 1911. Club Members Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to summit Mt. Everest in 1953, and Mariana Trench, the lowest point on Earth was attained by their Honorary President Don Walsh and Club Fellow Jacques Piccard in 1960. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins reached the moon in 1969 carrying The Explorers Club Flag. It is the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge that distinguishes the scientific explorer from the adventurer. The Explorers Club Research Collections contain approximately 14,000 volumes (1400 of which comprise the Rare Book Collection), 550 linear feet of archives and manuscripts, 1,000 artifacts, 3,500 maps, and 500 films and videos housed throughout Club Headquarters.

The Young Explorers Program encourages and facilitates the spirit of exploration through the pursuit of science, art, and conservation. The program aims to encourage personal growth for young people who will benefit from direct experience, academic study, cultural exchange, and connecting with the Adventure Canada and Explorers Club community. The Young Explorers Program Alumni will lead the next generation to thoughtful policy, action, and communication.

The Polar Film Festival
Each year, Adventure Canada collaborates with The Explorers Club to curate and host the Polar Film Festival. The festival features films created by Northern artists that feature issues and stories relevant to the world's polar regions. It takes place annually in New York City.
