At the age of eleven, Alana travelled north for the first time, taking in the vast Arctic landscape, abundant wildlife and welcoming northern communities. She has been back north every year since then, and each time is captured by Canada’s ultimate destination (in her opinion!). Alana joined the family business as Operations Manager after completing her Bachelors of Social Work degree in 2007. Armed with a passion for exploration and community engagement Alana is dedicated to a sustainable Arctic tourism experience. She strives to collaborate with communities in order to make the experience for passengers and communities an authentic and exciting one for all. Alana strongly believes tourism celebrates the exchange of sustainable knowledge as both passengers and hosts are able to learn about each other through the sharing of stories, traditions, language, dance, music and food. Alana thoroughly enjoys her work at Adventure Canada and Cruise North and in her free time spends most of it with her six-year-old daughter Leah and her husband Brian at her family home in Mississauga, Ontario.

Bill grew up in Newfoundland with a love of travel and counting things. After obtaining his Chartered Accountancy designation in Nova Scotia in 1997, Bill relocated to Toronto via New Zealand. He first met Matthew and Cedar while developing the Polar Cruising program for a local tour operator. Bill joined Adventure Canada in 2010 helping with Finance, Accounting and Operations and was delighted to sail home to Botwood aboard the Clipper Adventurer on the 2011 Greenland and Wild Labrador voyage.

Carlos Sojo is a newcomer to Canada. He was born and raised in the Andes, in Venezuela. He holds a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design from Los Andes University. Prior to joining the Adventure Canada team, Carlos traveled around Venezuela for the National Parks Institution, visiting some of the most indigenous and remote places. He was lucky enough to take photographs and design pieces on locations such as the Angel Falls. Carlos holds a great passion for design, art, and architecture. Whether designing for work, or painting for pleasure he has an eye and appreciation for art and design. Outside of the office, he enjoys playing basketball and volleyball, and dancing salsa with his wife. He loves kids and whenever he gets the chance he travels, especially to warm destinations such as Thailand. But soon enough he will experience some of Canada's coldest destinations, so he better bundle up!

Named for the Queen of trees that dominates her province of birth, British Columbia, Cedar has been in the family business since the tender age of ten, where she made her big debut sealing envelopes. In 1994, Cedar had her first organized travel experience on Adventure Canada’s Project Arctic Coast where she fell in love with travel and the ocean. This monumental experience altered the direction her life would take - gone were the dreams of becoming an Olympic athlete – in were visions of distant shorelines, wild animals and exotic cultures. Her curiosity for people and their traditions led Cedar to study history at the University of Toronto. With over eighteen years in the expedition shipping business, Cedar has extensive experience in developing, marketing and delivering intimate group experiences. Managing a small office, she has a hand in all areas of the business, but gets great satisfaction cultivating new itineraries and interesting shore excursions. However her favourite element of the travel business remains program delivery where she can get out and explore the world’s wild places and get to know her many amazing clients. Cedar delights in travelling Canada and the world and thoroughly enjoys helping others reach their travel dreams.

Jason grew up in the communities of Nain and Makkovik in Northern Labrador. He was an active youth, participating and contributing in local and regional Inuit youth groups, language and culture preservation committees and sports teams. During the summer months he traveled the coast of Labrador extensively while hunting and assisting his father with tours and charters. Coming from a family of politicians, Jason went on to study Political Science at Memorial University, traveling between his home and the booming metropolises of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and St. John’s, NL. After his time in university he went on to study carpentry and tourism. It was at this time he became involved with Adventure Canada as a guide in training. Now living in Mississauga, he hopes to add enjoyment to your travels both from the office and onboard.

Originally from Nunatsiavut, Jenna has always been a strong advocate for Inuit Youth. She has represented her community and region in language and culture preservation committees. Jenna spent three seasons working for our sister company, Cruise North Expeditions. She has also worked in the tourism department for the Torngat Mountains National Park. Jenna is currently in her final year at Lakehead University’s Outdoor Recreation and Tourism/Natural Science Program

Judy was born and raised in Quebec City, and lived and worked in Montreal for nine years, before moving to Toronto, where she met her husband, David. Judy and David have two children, a dog and a cat. Judy loves the great outdoors, alternating her time between biking, kayaking and running. Judy began with Adventure Canada in 1998, and has helped many of our clients organize and prepare for their adventure. She finds it exciting and fun to assist her clients ahead of their departure and then to actually go on that trip and meet all the passengers she has been speaking to. Judy and her family live in Mississauga, Ontario.

Loretta joined Adventure Canada in 2006 after being a stay at home Mom for 18 years. Prior to this, Loretta had worked in the travel industry for many years as a travel agent. Adventure Canada has allowed Loretta to travel to many areas that she has always had an interest in – the Canadian Arctic including the Northwest Passage, Greenland, Labrador and Newfoundland as well as Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Loretta enjoys travels and takes great pleasure in helping our guests experience our vast and beautiful country as well as other amazing destinations. Loretta lives in Port Credit where Adventure Canada is located and is fortunate enough to be able to walk or bike to work everyday. Although her children are grown, her greatest pleasure is spending time with her husband Vic, her son Matthew, and daughter Katie as well as Reilly, her golden retriever.

When onboard Matthew James is vital part of the expedition team, often working in the capacity of Assistant Expedition Leader. Matthew James first travelled to the arctic when he was 2 years old - an experience that ignited his love for the north. Matthew has returned many times to continue learning about the magnificent environment and unique culture. Matthew James is inspired by his loving family and friends to journey into this extraordinary part of the world. Matthew James is looking forward to chauffeuring you around in Zodiacs and monitoring for polar bears while ashore.

With an eye on the future, Matthew Swan’s parents emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1959 and, to their son’s good fortune, they decided to bring Matthew with them. Matthew has recognized opportunities that present themselves ever since that big move. He graduated with a degree in English from the University of St. Andrew’s, Scotland, a degree he started in Windsor, Ontario but opted for the opportunity to travel and learn simultaneously. Matthew returned to Canada and worked as a print and photojournalist in Ontario and British Columbia. He encountered the outdoor training and adventure field while undertaking an outdoor instructor’s apprenticeship program at Strathcona Park Lodge on Vancouver Island. Returning east, Matthew shifted focus and worked in the emerging white water rafting industry on the Ottawa River. Strathcona and the Ottawa were the catalysts for Adventure Canada, created in 1987 with his brother Bill and friend David Freeze. Matthew considers himself to have one of the best jobs in Canada. Researching and delivering travel programs has taken him to some of the most beautiful parts of the country, an experience he describes as having an “elemental effect” on his view of Canada. He developed many programs in the Arctic that continue to be the company’s most successful destination. Matthew and his three children, Cedar, Alana and Matthew James and grand-daughter Leah, live in a remote, wilderness part of Mississauga, but very near the airport.

Her favourite Adventure Canada voyages are Adventure Canada’s Celtic trips around Scotland & Ireland and the Greenland & Wild Labrador expedition. When not chatting with guests about their next great adventure, Sheryl handles Adventure Canada’s accounting business.
