Once again Adventure Canada is planning a rocking holiday party in our hometown of Port Credit! Bring your dancing shoes as Tom Barlow, Marshall Dane, Tyler Yarema & Friends are set to liven up the historic Clarke Hall.

This event is open to all clients, past and present, friends and family, folks that want to get to know the company and anyone who loves to dance! As most of you know, we at Adventure Canada love any excuse to put on a costume -so please come dressed in your best get-up. Whether its Halloween, Holiday, Western, Disco or your costume from one of our Expeditions, come dressed to impress! As always, there are major prizes involved!

Not So Lonesome George

Naturalists and Tortoise lovers were thrilled when scientists discovered a third
nest in the corral of Lonesome George earlier this month. George is
the last known Pinta Island Tortoise in the world. He lives at the
Giant tortoise-breeding centre on Santa Cruz Island in Galapagos.
Researchers are attempting to breed George with two females of the
closely related Geochelone becki species of Giant Tortoise. Since July
three nests have been found and a total of 16 eggs are in incubation.

George is the only tortoise left of his species, which is why he received the
nickname of "lonesome." He was found on Pinta Island in 1972 by a group
of GNP rangers who were goat-hunting. Since that time, the Galapagos
National Park, with scientific support from the Charles Darwin
Foundation, have explored various options to encourage George to mate.
Their efforts had been unsuccessful until now.

escape the winter blues we head to the equator this January and
February to experience the unrivaled natural splendour of the famous
island archipelago.

this adventure. It is a sunny, spring like day in Vancouver and I look
completely inappropriate for the balmy day this is. I am wearing
pants, a long sleeved tee shirt, a hoodie, thick socks and hiking
boots...some of my heaviest clothes. There is a weight restriction of
20kg for our luggage. And I have been obsessed with this as I packed on
the weekend. I weighed everything I am taking on a kitchen scale and I
save a whole kilogram and a half by wearing the heavy stuff, but man,
it's warm. As I sit here in Seat 13C, I notice a young woman
struggling with her luggage. She is also not dressed for the weather of
the day. Perhaps she, too, is heading to the Arctic.

Spooky Supernatural Folk Belief and the Scottish Witch-Hunt

both of the University of Glasgow. There will be sessions on such
topics as the Scottish Halloween Festival, the North Berwick
witch-hunt, Witches and Charmers of South-West Scotland, the Making of
Tam O'Shanter, Supernatural Ballads, Selkies, Kelpies and Fairies,
Prophecy and Second Sight.

unit)! The prestigious award goes to the company that operates a
multiple-unit business whose significant contribution to the tourism

that is evident in its operations. Areas of consideration include,

community and vision for the future. The winner of the Canadian
Business of the Year Award will be announced on November 4th, at the
2008 Canadian Tourism Summit.

National Park in western Newfoundland has been nominated as one of the
new 7 Wonders of the Natural World. Gros Morne is presently ranked at
#86 - but there is still time to get your vote in! Voting will
continue until the 31st of December 2008, at this point the top site
from each country will proceed to the next level. The second phase of
voting will commence on January 1, 2009 and on July 7, 2009 the top 77
will be reviewed and 21 finalists will be selected. The 21 finalists
will then be put to popular vote. If you have not already cast your
vote for Gros Morne National Park go to www.n7w.com now.

and concert in Haliburton. Long time clients Janis Parker and Ron
Kozak have offered up their beautiful cottage for an afternoon of great
food and a live concert by singer-songwriter, Ian Tamblyn. There is
also opportunity to explore the community of Haliburton, with a game of
golf, a walk in the cloud forest, private visitations to artist studios
and a new sculpture unveiling at the Haliburton sculpture forest. This
event is open to all Adventure Canada travellers past and present. The
cost for dinner and the show is $25.00. For those wishing to stay over
on the Friday and/or Saturday we have a preferred rate at the Delta
Pinestone Resort. RSVP is necessary.

Inuit Art Collecting Past and Present

readings by Walrus writers Jaspreet Singh and Chris Turner and an

Conversations. Conversations surveys the work of this 27-year-old
artist showcasing the changes and developments of his paintings from
2000 - 2008. Presented in full colour, the paintings are accompanied by
text drawn from 16 video interviews conducted by art historian Jessica
Gillies in early 2008. Interviewees include artists, arts writers,
gallerists, designers and friends of the artist. Edited by Laurel
MacMillan, the non-linear collection of quotes and anecdotes provide an
introductory look at Driscoll's work through the eyes of his peers.
